Grade Four

Mrs. Staci Battisti

Mrs. Karin Eggleston

Welcome to fourth grade!  Fourth grade is a big year and includes three state exams in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science.  Students are required to take on a little more independence and will be required to fill out agendas and return homework on a more independent basis. It's a growing time, but your children are ready for the new challenge of fourth grade.  Browse through the fourth grade portal and familiarize yourself with just a few of the basic "need to know" items.  Remember, if you have any questions, your fourth grade teachers are always available to help you with any concerns.

Curriculum

Language Arts: Daily work will follow the Houghton Mifflin language arts series.  There will be 2 reading periods a day, in which work will be completed as small groups move through reading centers.  You will notice that all language work is compiled in one student practice workbook.  We will also work on listening and comprehension skills.  Students should be reading nightly in order to meet the state's goal of reading 25 books per year.

Math: Our series focuses on critical thinking skills, vocabulary, and problem solving.  Daily homework will be used to reinforce class lessons.

Social Studies: New York State History will be explored this year.  Students will also be introduced to a variety of historical documents and document based questions.

Science: Fourth grade science will be addressed through a variety of learning styles.  We will work from the textbook, in cooperative groups, and do some whole group activities.
