Message From the Teachers
News From Our Room
Housekeeping Information

Throughout the year, we will be very busy and there will be many things to remember.  We will send home reminders as often as possible but here are a few housekeeping needs we thought of in advance:

    1.  As snack milk continues, the tickets from last year dwindle. We will send home money envelopes with the used ticket stapled to the front.  A milk ticket (10 days) is $3.00.  Individual daily milk is $.30.  Please return the envelope as soon as possible.

    2.  Each month a snack list will be sent home.  This will be on your child's lunch menu.  Your child's name will be written on the day he/she is responsible for bringing in snack (thank you in advance).  If your child's birthday is on a weekend or a vacation, the snack will either be on the Friday or Monday that is closest.  If you prefer, you may send in package of cookies at the beginning of each month and I will store them here.

    3.  I would like to photograph your child during work, activity time, or on trips.  These pictures will then be taken home at the end of the year.  If you do  not want your child's photo taken, please send me a note.

    4.  If there is any change in address, phone number, bussing, or pick up person,  please send in a note letting us know.

Homework Procedure for First Grade

  • On Monday, we send home an assignment for Monday through Thursday.
  • Each night when your child completes the assignment, your should sign the paper verifying that he has done the work and review the sight and spelling words.
  • On Friday, please return the signed assignment sheet.

You will notice that homework assignments are practice activities.  Therefore the work should be done each night.  We realize that some children want to do all the assignments on one night but that defeats the purpose.  A little practice every night is far more effective than a lot of practice on one night.

We would not expect that the assignments would take more than 20 minutes each night.  If it takes your child an extended amount of time, we would suggest that you not insist that he/she complete the assignments.  We want homework to be a positive experience for you and your child.  Let us know if you experience problems.

Although homework does not receive a grade, we do keep track as to whether it is being completed and returned.  There is a place on the report card for homework under Study Habits.  Establishing good homework habits at an early age is important since they will continue as your child gets older.

Thank you for your cooperation.
